The access road to the famous ski resort of l'Alpe d'Huez. There are some other roads out of the resort, but only really suitable for lovers of gravel and stones.
The main road up, and the only one really of interest to road bikers leads from the south off the N91 near l'Bourg-d'Oisans. This is the road busses take up casino online in the winter, so it's well-kept, wide and has 21 hairpins - brilliant! When we did it, a lot of it had just been resurfaced, and in the heat the tarmac was still soft, even under the weight of our bikes. Which made coming down interesting.... It doesn't take too long, and definitely worth the detour if you're here. Have a drink at the top.

This is one of those roads that you would never find by yourself and just blows you away once you are there.

To start, going west- find the minor road D211b and just follow it. This road is mostly a 1 to 1.5 lanes with many blind corners. This is not a fast journey so just enjoy it for what it is- which is one of the most spectacular routes in the world.

Fortunately not too many people know about this road- so you don't see much in the way of traffic. But again, take it slow and enjoy it!

Fun fact- They run the Tour de France down this road- Wow, those guys have some big cajones..

The Col du Glandon (1924m) Runs north-south and the first part of the south ramp is quite good, you have to ride up the front face of the reservior dam wall. Otherwise the surface online casino is average. The road runs through the river valley up to the top reservoir and the turn off for the Col de la Croix de Fer. Alpine scenery through conifer woods and grassland. Down to La Chambre.

One of the classic high Alpine passes. it is the 3rd highest in the Alps.

More fun than a barrel of monkeys. This road has it all- riding south you start in a canyon, opens up midway and it is pure fun all the way to the top. There is a tunnel that cuts about 200 meters of the top, but if you take it you miss one of the best views in the alps- so ride to the top, stop the bike and take it all in.

It can get crowded during peak times in the summer with everything with wheels and don’t go near it when the tour de France is in town.

The start and end of this route are only 10 km apart, but it takes you 55 km to do it.
Fill up in St. Jean if you're getting low. The road climbs through trees high on the right side of a narrow (basalt?) gorge, through three (or so) unlit tunnels - two of which have bends in them, eventually opening out onto a high glaciated valley where there are a few ski resorts and fab scenery. The road surface used to be excellent all the way, probably because of the resorts in winter, but has deteriorated in recent years and can only be described as average now [2002]. From the ski resort of St.Sorlin d'Arves, there's a final steepish knee-down climb up through high moorland to the Col de la Croix de Fer [2062m]. A short drop to the 'saddle' where the road to the Col de Glandon turns off right. The surface is average, on the whole.
